Danger – Beware!

Beware of bears! – Joy Ware Miller

Hey…at least I was warned…right?  The directions tell me exactly what to look for and how to avoid a bear.

Now my natural instinct is to OBEY the directions and stay clear of any and all bears.  I may want to read the directions again and take any necessary precautions…just to be sure!  That just makes sense!  No one wants to have an encounter with a bear…not now…not ever!

This situation made me think of how tricky the enemy can be.  At all times the enemy is looking for opportunites to take something from us.  He’s really out to “kill, steal and destroy” (Jn 10:10).  Yet sometimes, we take the directions (The Word of God) so lightly…we miss the warning signs.  We don’t understand the directions that tell us to “flee the very appearance of evil”, (1Thes 5:22) – or to “put on the whole armor of God” (Eph. 6:11) – or to “renew our minds” (Rom 12:2).  That would be daily!

And somtimes…we just take the directions (The Word of God) for granted…and walk right into the bear (the enemies territory) and then wonder “what happened?”

I know what happend!  The warning signs were ignored, DIS-OBEYED, missed and wrapped in honey!  Lack of prayer time, lack of intimacy with God, being swift to speak and slow to hear rather than swift to hear and slow to speak, giving into our own desires rather than God’s.  The list could go on and on.  The Bible tells us “that the Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matt 26:41)

I was reminded recently that we should “take our post with the spiritual responsibility that has been intrusted to us.”  Thank you Amani!

I’m taking my Post…won’t you join me?

Perspective -

Isn’t it amazing that when you lose your perspective on God or His Word, how clearly you can see everything negative in your life!  Without keeping your perspective on God’s Word,  our circumstances look hazy, our family looks unfamiliar, our finances seem non-existant, our over-all outlook on life is dim.  So how could something like that happen?

We can easily lose our perspective when “life” happens and we get consumed by our outward circumstances.  We get busy being busy.  We see how deep the water is and forget about walking on it!  Work demands our attention, our family deserves more time.  Church activities become burdensome and we feel the “time to make the donuts” syndrome.  We wake up counting the hours before it’s bedtime again.  Be alert – that sounds like signs of depression! (An enemy tactic for sure)!

So what do we need? More rest? More money? More time? More responsibility?  Nothing wrong with those things.  However, I am finding “More Perspective” – seeing Jesus clearly is what makes the difference.  Spending time at the feet of Jesus, in His arms – face to face gaining His perspective.  Seeing everything through His Eyes only!   In Isaiah 41:17-20, we are reminded that the Lord hears us, we are not forsaken, and that He will create open rivers in desolate places.  Basically, with clearer perspective from God…we can see His Hand in our lives…even in the wilderness.  That’s the hard part sometimes but should encourage us to press on!

If you ever find yourself in the desert or a wilderness season…don’t lose your perspective – or clear view of Jesus.  Take the time – make the time to climb up in your Daddy’s lap and get His perspective!   He definitly sees you and will guide you through and eventually out with His Right Hand!

CONNECT & REFLECT: Don’t be afraid…He is the Alpha and Omega and everything you need in between!

Comfort At 25,000 Feet!

Monday, March 16th, 2015

I’m currently  flying at 25,000 feet.  It’s 5:30 in the morning and still very dark outside.  In the distance I can faintly see the runway lights and the lights from the city.

However, right on the wing are lights that continue to blink and can be easily seen whether cloudy or dark.   It’s so cool…because I sense God saying “I am here”.

Three little words at 25,000 feet are precious to discern.

Whether you are experiencing a high situation or things are at a low..God is reassuring you…”I am here…I am with you…you are not alone”.

Today…sit back and leave the flying and the lifting to God!

Read Psalm 91:1-2

Peace

Saturday, February 28th, 2015

The world is giving us so many things…all wrapped in one small four letter word.  However this small four letter word is designed to wreck havoc in our lives starting from within.  We hear about wars, beheadings and terror.   Many don’t know what tomorrow holds…financial issues, health challenges, job difficulties, family disconnected, loneliness and are worried about the future.  The world is offering the four letter word of fear.

How do we handle fear?

Don’t forget, God gave us so many things within Himself, that should absolutely resonate in our lives as Believers.  I trust the headlines on and in our heart reads “PEACE…no matter what.”   Our God never said it (life) was going to be easy…but He gave us tools through His Word that we must continually pick up AND use!  Daily!

One tool is peace!  ”Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ” John 14:27

God has given us peace…His peace.  Nothing can compare!

When we know Him…we know peace!  No God…no peace!

War Stories

Confrontation, in your face and behind your back!

by Joy Ware Miller – May 24, 2014

That’s high school in a nutshell!  Oh my goodness.  During middle school I had the wonderful opportunity to home-school both of our daughters.  What an awesome experience.  Believe me…there are stories to share about that too!

However, today…we’re talking War Stories from public high school.  Now understand…it’s not the kids, it’s not the teachers, it’s not the homework that is the problem.  The problem is the devil.  The enemy that comes to steal, kill and destroy lives.  This age group is so vulnerable to the plots and schemes of the devil…that all hell usually breaks out without a skirmish.  Not so sure about the adults! (ANYWAY)…

The enemy is slinging lies of self hatred, hatred of others, hatred of everything and anything.  So many kids are just mad…and they don’t know why.  Our culture has no restraints and says yes to everything that feels good, looks good, taste good and is fun for the moment.

Things look out of control!

It’s refreshing to know and hear War Stories of young adults who are praying and crying out for their schools, for their classmates and teachers.  There is a generation of those sold-out to Jesus and they are in our schools, they are on the playgrounds, they are in the lunch rooms.

My daughter recently said “this life isn’t easy, but God didn’t say it would be”!  “He just said it will be worth it”!  These young adults are praying for you, our families and community!  Every ambulance and fire-truck that goes by…these warriors are crying out for your protection and life for those you are rescuing.

Just when you think it’s over…the real battle has begun!  God is raising up those who will seek His face…and obey His voice!

CONNECT & REFLECT:  Always wear your armour…and don’t think you’re ever too young OR too old to fight.

Ephesians 6:11-18
